Job summary

Power Equipment Company in Kingsport, TN seeks a skilled technician to repair a wide range of heavy equipment. The role includes engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and loader attachments; some sites may have dyno/test equipment.

You will participate in a 24-month apprenticeship and work in a safety-focused service department. Candidates need a HS diploma (technical degree preferred) and 2+ years in heavy equipment.

Qualifications

• Requires High School Diploma or equivalent; a 2-year technical degree preferred.
• 2+ years in heavy equipment industry or related field.
• Proficient with MS Office and diagnostic software.
• Good written and verbal communication; strong math skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform repair work on equipment, from overhauls to minor fixes.
• Troubleshoot problems, diagnose failures, and perform repairs.
• Disassemble, order parts, reassemble, test operation, and verify leaks are stopped.
• Use test equipment to dyno test engines, hydraulics, and transmissions where available.
• Travel to job sites and training sessions as needed.
• Maintain safety and cleanliness of the work area.

Job Summary: The technician will perform repair work on a wide variety of equipment ranging from complete machine overhauls to minor repairs such as fixing leaks, changing fluids and filters. Other types of repairs may include rebuild components such as engines, transmissions, hydraulic cylinders and hydraulic pumps. Some locations have test equipment to dyno test engines, hydraulic pumps and transmissions. Installations may include undercarriage on track machines, attachments on plumbing excavators for hammers or scalers; quick coupler attachments on loaders, excavators and backhoes.Job Responsibilities:Perform daily and operational activities in the service department to include the following, but not limited to:Participate in and successfully complete the apprenticeship program comprised of week-long training sessions and on the job training for a total of 24 monthsTroubleshoot equipment problem/diagnose failurePerform diagnostic functions, check pressures, check voltage, locate source of noise or vibrationDisassemble machine, order parts, make repairs, assemble machine, check machine operation make sure repairs are complete and confirm problem is fixed unit has no leaks, and is work readyClean parts, scrape gaskets, prep for assemblyMaintain safety and cleanliness of work environmentTravel to jobsites and vendor training sessions as neededJob Qualifications:Must have High School Diploma or equivalent, a 2 year technical degree or comparable military training is preferredMust have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in the heavy equipment industry or a related fieldExcellent written and oral communication and basic mathematical skills.Proficient with a computer, including the use of Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and diagnostic use using manufacturer provided programs.Must have a good working knowledge of equipment operations and mechanical functions.Ability to stoop, kneel, push, pull, twist and carry and lift up to 70lbs.Ability to climb and perform work on heights of 15 feetAble to work in all types of weather conditionsCapable of working with limited supervision / self-starterMaintain excellent customer serviceMust be able to pass a background, physical, and drug screen
