The Apprentice - Patient Access role is the entry-level position for Patient Access. It involves scheduling, pre-registering, registering, and admitting patients to the hospital. The role serves as the first contact for many patients and requires a caring and professional attitude towards patients and visitors. Responsibilities include determining insurance coverage and eligibility, performing pre-authorization procedures, maintaining patient care unit control for all bedded units, and providing comprehensive financial counseling and assistance. The role also involves establishing and monitoring each patient's account before their visit, during inpatient stays, and up to 5 days post-discharge. Ensuring the accuracy of the patient’s unique identification number and demographic and financial information used to create electronic bills is essential. The role also includes informing patients of estimated financial responsibilities and collecting up-front payments and co-payments based on these estimates.
