Job summary

Asplundh Careers is seeking an Apprentice Lineperson to assist with installation, operation, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground electrical lines. The role involves training on the job and classroom instruction, with exposure to emergency calls and field service.

Apprentice Lineperson

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Attends to service calls concerning power outages and electrical problems.
  • Receives training both in book/classroom skills and on the job skills. Must continue to pass ongoing training to proceed to higher skill/job levels.
  • Operates motorized equipment, use hand tools, and perform routine maintenance on electrical equipment, machinery, and tools.
  • Stocks and services vehicles to be equipped to respond to emergency situations.
  • Responds to emergency calls.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Comfortable working with heights.
  • Able to:
    • work with hands above head for extended periods of time.
    • walk, climb, and work from ladders, or at various heights, on uneven and slippery surfaces, performing mentally/physically demanding work under unfavorable weather conditions while handling equipment or material.
    • meet and maintain weight restrictions for bucket truck and other existing equipment as identified by truck manufacturer.
    • climb a power pole using climbing hooks and belt.
    • drive all vehicles assigned to the line crew, operate digger derrick to set poles, and use jackhammer, etc.
    • work long hours and overtime during holidays, emergencies, weekends, etc. Subject to call out work.
Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
Pre-Screen
  • Upon offer, employees may be required to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, background, and/or MVR check.
License & Certifications
  • Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) required.
Travel Requirements
  • Responds to emergencies during holidays, weekends and national disasters.
  • May require travel away from show up area.
Physical Requirements
  • OCCASIONAL (up to 33%): Sitting, Kneeling, and Crawling
  • FREQUENT (up to 66 %): Stooping, Squatting, Body Twisting, Manual Dexterity, Reading, Climbing Ladders, Climbing On/Off Truck, Climbing Poles, Gripping, and Climbing Stairs
  • CONTINUOUS (up to 100%): Standing, Walking, Sense of Touch, Speaking Clearly, Seeing Distant, Seeing, Reaching, Range of Motion, Hearing-Speech Range, Depth Perception, Color Vision, Lifting, Carrying, Pushing, Pulling, Lifting Over 10 lbs. to 50 lbs., Balancing, Lifting Up to 10 lbs., and Lifting Up to 50 lbs.
