Job summary

Utility Lines Construction Services in Mooresville, NC is seeking an Overhead Distribution C Lineperson. This entry-level line worker installs and repairs overhead distribution and transmission systems including poles, cables, and electrical equipment.

You will set poles, string overhead wires with proper sag, troubleshoot primary/secondary circuits, replace fuses, communicate with property owners, and maintain tools and equipment while following Safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Must have 1–2 years in electrical power line construction.
  • Ability to work with energized high voltage systems.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Experience with safe sagging techniques and equipment.
  • Valid driver license preferred; CDL preferred or ability to obtain.

Responsibilities

  • Install transformers, switches, crossarms, insulators, and gear.
  • Set poles and string overhead wire with proper sag.
  • Troubleshoot primary/secondary systems.
  • Replace fuses and clear faulted circuits.
  • Communicate work to property owners.
  • Maintain equipment and ensure safety.
  • Perform new construction, maintenance, or repair on energized/de-energized lines.
  • Report safety hazards to Foreperson.

Job Title:

Overhead Distribution C Lineperson

Job Description:

A entry-level line worker thatinstalls and fixes overhead distribution and transmission systems, which includes poles, cables, and electrical systems. Line Workers also fit, repair, and maintain underground cables and electrical equipment.

Pay:
  • Competitive/Hourly – Discussed During Interview Process
Primary responsibilities:
  • Installing transformers, lightening arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear
  • Setting poles and anchors, stringing overhead wire, proper sagging techniques
  • Troubleshooting trouble in primary and secondary systems.
  • Replacing cutout fuses and clearing faulted circuits and systems.
  • Ability to solve problems with unidentified circumstances on any particular job.
  • Ensure daily testing and inspection of assigned tools and equipment.
  • Will have contact with public and private property owners to professionally communicate work to be performed.
  • Maintain company equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • General duties related to the installation of overhead power supply.
  • Perform new construction, maintenance or repair work of energized and de-energized overhead line work following company established Safety and Health standards.
  • All other duties as required or requested by Supervisors.
  • Reports all potential equipment and crew safety hazards to Foreperson
Minimum qualification:
  • Ability and specific skill to work with energized high voltage systems
  • Must possess strong communication skills both written and spoken.
  • Ability to work with and around heavy equipment.
  • Must have knowledge of proper sagging techniques
  • Ability to install and remove a service
  • May be able to identify primary and secondary voltage.
  • Knowledge on tying in a primary conductor, phasing a circuit through a substation and identify induced voltage.
  • Must have some knowledge of checking voltage on transformers, one shot on a recloser and grounding procedures.
  • May have some understanding of flag and tag procedures.
  • May be able to identify different materials used in linework.
  • Must have some understanding of Kellum grips and phasing sticks.
  • Must have some knowledge of load break tool and reconductoring job.
  • Must have some proven previous Overhead Maintenance experience.
  • Must have some knowledge of trenching and shoring, rigging, hand lines, and lineman knot tying and making and using a hand line
  • Must have some knowledge of assisting hooking up a single or three phase transformers.
  • May be able to inspect/use proper cover up.
  • Must have some knowledge of minimum approach distance.
  • May be capable of bucket rescue.
  • Must have some knowledge of safely installing and removing a mechanical jumper.
  • May be able to climb different structures and possess the tools to do the climb.
  • Must be able to identify, operate and service all required tools and equipment. (i.e., bucket truck, digger derricktruck, tensioners, puller, rollers, hand tamp, chain saw, concrete saw, shovel)
  • May be able to operate and service all required tools and equipment.
  • Must be able to work long hours and overtime during holidays, emergencies, weekends, etc.
Education and experience:
  • Must have a minimum of 1 - 2 years of experiencein the electrical power line construction industry.
  • Be able to provide proof of work experience, schooling, and any certifications that you have obtained during your career.
Traveling requirements:
  • Must be willing to travel out of state for emergency storm work.
Driver License:
  • Valid Drivers License is preferred, if not must be able to discuss during the interview proess.
  • Valid CDL is preferred or willingness to obtain valid CDL within 90 days of employment. If unable to obtain, please discuss this during the interview process.
Safety:
  • Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must have sufficient eyesight to judge distance/coordination of equipment and tools, be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods of time, be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments, be able to wear personal protective equipment as necessary, be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day, have the endurance necessary to traverse various terrain, be capable of performing job duties throughout a standard 8 or 10-hour day, be able to communicate with others, read, write, and comprehend written/verbal job instructions and information, and communicate and handle conflict professionally.
Pre-Screen
