Job summary

Alaska Gold Company, LLC is seeking a Mechanic Apprentice in Nome, AK to learn and perform preventive maintenance and basic repair tasks on heavy equipment. You will work under supervision and progress toward journeyman-level competency.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED (preferred), potential heavy equipment training, and a valid driver's license. Overtime and safety training are part of the apprenticeship program.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Heavy Equipment training or vocational certification preferred.
  • Valid driver's license preferred.
  • Must provide valid CDL and Medical Examiner’s Certificate for DOT safety-sensitive role.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication, and fluid checks.
  • Learn to diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic system issues under supervision.
  • Inspect equipment and vehicles to identify wear, damage, or potential safety concerns.
  • Assist with disassembly, repair, and reassembly of engines, transmissions, braking systems, and other mechanical components.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop equipment safely and effectively.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records, work orders, and parts documentation.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
