Position Overview

The Meat Apprentice will receive training from the Meat Cutter, Department Manager, and/or Assistant Department Manager to perform functions related to the cutting, display, and selling of meat/seafood products. The role includes assisting with daily tasks in the meat department as directed. Responsibilities also include weighing packages to ensure accuracy, preparing the workspace, and confirming that all equipment (such as slicers and knives) are in proper working order.

Job Description

• Provide courteous customer service by answering questions about purchasing and preparing meat items and seafood, including product origin, handling techniques, preparation, and home storage.
• Assist customers with placing or picking up special meat/seafood orders, ensuring proper packaging and product condition.
• Receive training from Meat Cutter and Department Manager and/or Assistant Department Manager to perform tasks related to the cutting, display, and selling of meat/seafood products.
• Handle customer special orders/requests and forward them to the Manager in a timely manner.
• Follow proper housekeeping, sanitation, and safety practices to maintain a clean store image and a safe shopping environment.
• Adhere to food safety procedures.
• Maintain, fill, and rotate products in meat cases.
• Move products from coolers to cutting area and return to coolers.
• Clean equipment regularly.
• Assist with other duties as assigned.

• Store: Grocery Warehouse (50F to 90F)

Skills

• Specialized Knowledge: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form. Capable of dealing with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.
• Special Skills: Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and manuals; write routine reports; perform basic math; possess basic computer skills; and maintain regular vision.
• Physical Abilities: Constant standing and walking; ability to carry up to 110 lbs.; repetitive arm and hand movements; good eye-hand coordination; substantial hand strength.
• Other: Safe operation of tools and equipment such as box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and machinery; customer interaction.
