City of Brenham is seeking an Apprentice Lineworker I EAL1 to join our electric distribution team. You will perform unskilled and semi-skilled labor, assist lineworkers, and help with maintenance, construction, and safety planning under supervision.
Requirements include a high school diploma, completion of first 1,000 hours of the DOL program, and obtaining a Class A CDL within six months. This entry point trains you in safety, equipment operation, and utilities work.
Performs miscellaneous unskilled and semi-skilled manual labor duties and operates non-complex equipment in maintenance and construction of electric distribution lines.

This is a non-supervisory position.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The Apprentice Linework I EAL is the beginning entry point for the DOL Apprentice program. To be classified as an Apprentice Lineworker I EAL1, an individual must have completed the first 1,000 hours of DOL program and have a valid Class A CDL. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. High school graduation or its equivalent; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Standard office practices and procedures.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public; communicate effectively; operate equipment and tools used in maintaining and repairing electrical systems; and read and understand manuals, policies, and other documents.
For level EAL – Employees who do not have a Class A CDL (Commercial) Texas driver's license must successfully obtain this license within 180 days of hire. The City of Brenham offers an in-house training program to obtain this license.

The work environment always requires that the employee exercise caution and adhere to safety standards to avoid the risk of personal injury. The employee is exposed to outdoor elements, loud noises, vibrations, and respiratory hazards such as dust, gases, and chemicals. The employee may be required to work in a high voltage environment. The work environment is noisy and distracting.
"Employees who are likely to be called to work in cases of emergency may be required to reside within reasonable response commuting ranges of their places of work. A reasonable response time to an emergency is forty-five (45) minutes."
Residency which allows response time to a City emergency of forty-five (45) minutes MUST be established with 90 days of hire.
