Job description

Position Summary:

The Apprentice ALineman (APA) position is a semi-skilled role involved in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical overhead distribution systems. The position requires working at various locations and may involve travel to other states based on customer demands.

Essential Functions:

• Perform construction, maintenance, or repair work on energized and de-energized overhead systems safely.
• String overhead wire, set poles and anchors, and install transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear.
• Troubleshoot primary and secondary systems, replace fuses, clear faulted circuits, and work with energized high-voltage systems with caution.
• Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools.
• Perform physical labor as required.
• Identify primary and secondary voltages, understand grounding procedures, and use tools like load buster.
• Install and connect single-phase transformers, set poles safely, and work at heights or in confined spaces.
• Check transformer voltages, tie in primary conductors, and climb different structure types with appropriate tools.
• Phase out lines using phasing sticks, obtain recloser shots, and conduct pre-job briefings.
• Perform reconductoring jobs safely, glove/live work on high-voltage lines, and install/remove mechanical jumpers.
• Work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Minimum Requirements:

• Minimum of 3 years of field experience.
• Effective communication in English.
• Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days; CDL preferred.
• Willingness to travel long distances and work in various locations.
• Ability to lift over 50 lbs and inspect PPE and rubber goods.
• Willing to work overtime, including weekends and holidays, and glove/live high-voltage lines.

Physical Demands:

Requires talking, hearing, standing, walking, manual dexterity, and reaching frequently. Physical effort is necessary to perform job duties successfully.

Work Environment:

Exposure to fumes, moving mechanical parts, vibration, and extreme conditions at construction sites. The environment can be loud and outdoor in all weather conditions.
