Job summary

Peak Energy Solutions is seeking an Apprentice Lineman to support line crews in the construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead electrical systems. You will learn under Journeyman Linemen and Foremen, performing physically demanding work while developing skills for advancement.

The role requires climbing and working safely at heights, traveling within the service area, and willingness to work extended hours, nights, weekends, or holidays to restore service.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Enrollment in or completion of a recognized lineman apprenticeship or training program preferred.
  • 0–3 years of experience in powerline, utility, or heavy construction environments preferred.
  • Ability to climb poles and work safely at heights using fall protection equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required; ability to obtain CDL if required.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions and in remote or rugged terrain.
  • Ability to work extended hours, rotating schedules, and emergency call-outs as required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with overhead line construction activities including pole setting, conductor stringing, and installation of transformers, insulators, crossarms, and related hardware.
  • Support routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs of overhead powerlines and associated equipment.
  • Assist with emergency response efforts during outages, storms, or system failures and work extended hours as needed.
  • Follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements; use PPE properly and participate in safety meetings and hazard assessments.
  • Assist with the operation of bucket trucks, digger derricks, tensioners, and other line construction equipment under supervision.
  • Assist in completing work orders, inspection reports, and required documentation.

Key Responsibilities

Line Construction Support

  • Assist with overhead line construction activities including pole setting, conductor stringing, and installation of transformers, insulators, crossarms, and related hardware.
  • Handle, stage, and organize tools, materials, and equipment at job sites.

Maintenance & Repair Assistance

  • Support routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs of overhead powerlines and associated equipment.
  • Assist with troubleshooting electrical issues and replacing damaged components under supervision.

Storm & Emergency Response

  • Assist with emergency response efforts during outages, storms, or system failures.
  • Work extended hours, nights, weekends, or holidays as required to restore service safely.

Safety Compliance

  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow established safety protocols at all times.
  • Participate in safety meetings, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and hazard assessments.
  • Maintain situational awareness around energized lines, moving equipment, and elevated work areas.

Equipment Operation (Under Supervision)

  • Assist with and learn the operation of bucket trucks, digger derricks, tensioners, and other line construction equipment.
  • Perform work at elevated heights using appropriate fall protection systems as trained.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Assist in completing work orders, inspection reports, and required documentation.
  • Maintain records of work performed and materials used as directed.

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with foremen, journeymen, groundmen, and other crew members to complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.

Training & Development

  • Participate in formal and on-the-job training programs.
  • Learn industry best practices, safety standards, and technical skills required for advancement.
  • Demonstrate continuous improvement in skills, safety awareness, and productivity.

  • Ability to work extended hours, rotating schedules, and emergency call‑outs as required.
  • Good communication skills and strong work ethic.
  • Physical ability to perform strenuous manual labor.

Work Environment

  • Field‑based position performed outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Exposure to uneven terrain, energized electrical systems, and heavy equipment.
  • Full‑time position with variable work hours based on operational and project needs.

Physical Demands

  • Prolonged standing, walking, climbing, bending, stooping, and manual handling of tools and materials.
  • Ability to work at elevated heights and in physically demanding environments.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical activity for extended periods.

Travel

  • Daily travel within a designated service area is expected, with occasional extended travel as required.
