Covington Electric Cooperative, Inc. is seeking two Apprentice Linemen for the Sanford and Enterprise offices. The role involves construction/maintenance of distribution lines, operating bucket trucks, and following electrical safety protocols.

CDL Class A with air/power brake certification is required within six months; 1–3 years' distribution experience is preferred. Willingness to relocate is encouraged.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of electrical safety codes (NESC, RUS, OSHA) and lineworker basics.
  • Experience reading staking sheets and work orders for new services or retirements.
  • Willingness to live/relocate to the service area and participate in training.

Responsibilities

  • Construct and maintain distribution lines and services, energized or de-energized as needed.
  • Install transformers, equipment, and voltage regulators per RUS specs.
  • Operate bucket trucks and heavy equipment for pole setting and URD cable work.
  • Perform emergency maintenance, bypass regulators, and respond to trouble calls.
  • Work overtime as required and participate in stand-by rotations.

Job description

Covington Electric Cooperative, Inc., is seeking Two Apprentice Linemen 2 Positions Available (1) Sanford Office (1) Enterprise Office)

Under general supervision of the Construction Foreman, this job requires some use of judgement to comply with instructions and standard procedures; performs required work in connection with construction/maintenance of new distribution lines and/or services and works with "energized" lines.

  • Must have high school education or its equivalent. Must possess or obtain within first six months of employment, a valid commercial driver's license (CDL Class A with air/power brake certification).
  • Consideration will be given to candidates with one to three years' experience in electric distribution service/construction work, or an appropriate combination of education, training and experience. Consideration will also be given to candidates who possess general knowledge of electrical safety codes (NESC, RUS Construction specifications, and OSHA Safety Code), power line construction, hotline work, and maintenance techniques.
  • Preference will be given to candidate who has successfully completed a formal Introductory Electrical Lineworker Program, such as Wallace State in Dothan or Southeast Lineman Training Center in Trenton, Georgia.
  • Must be able to read and interpret staking sheets/work orders in connection with constructing new services or retiring old ones.
  • Must be able to determine amount of wire needed, and load wire, poles, transformers, and other needed materials/equipment onto vehicles.
  • Must be able to install and change-out transformers, T-Brackets, C.T.'s, connect transformer banks, oil circuit reclosers, capacitors, voltage regulators, security lights, and other distribution line equipment on both energized and de-energized lines, for both overhead/underground, primary/secondary construction and related equipment, under direction of supervision.
  • Must be able to operate bucket trucks, digger/derrick trucks, trencher, etc., in order to dig and set poles and anchors, install URD cable, and perform other construction jobs according to RUS specifications.
  • Must be able to inspect all new service entrances to ensure conformance with National Electric Code and the Cooperative's wiring requirements; install blocks, regular equipment, and other heavy equipment as required for construction of lines; install wires of standard size, determines correct sag, installs armor rods, and ties conductor of any size on poles constructed for primary/secondary service lines; install overhead and down guys; energize or temporarily de-energize lines, and frame poles according to RUS specifications.
  • Must be able to use power saw and bucket truck in trimming trees and cutting brush for right-of-way clearance as required.
  • Must be able to perform emergency maintenance and repair lines, bypass regulators and change out transformers.
  • Must be able to work overtime, weekends, and holidays in emergency situations, and participate in the scheduled rotation of stand-by crews for clearing trouble calls as required.
  • Must be willing to live and/or relocate to the service area in which this position is available.
  • Must be willing to participate in special training programs/classes as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Candidate may be required to successfully pass Drug Screen & Background check.
