Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a dedicated utility worker to support underground electrical installations and maintenance. You will assist with splices, cable terminations, transformer placements, pole framing, and safe equipment operation in the field.

The role emphasizes safety, following detailed instructions, effective communication with teammates and customers, and obtaining necessary licenses and certifications within 12 months where required.

Qualifications

• Experience with underground utilities and electrical systems.
• Ability to read safety rules and maintenance instructions.
• CPR and First Aid certifications are preferred.

Job description

• Assist in maintaining acceptable levels of standard materials on truck
• Assist in all ground work while linemen are performing their duties
• Assist in installing splices on de-energized U/G secondary and primary conductors
• Assist in placement of U/G transformers and pads
• Assist in terminating U/G cables in transformers
• Assist in the installation of streetlights and related equipment
• Assist in framing and setting of poles
• Assist in digging anchors and pulling wires
• Safe operation of chain saws and basic Right of Way skills
• Drive ground rods
• Place primary and secondary in trench in the construction of an U/G service or subdivision
• Spot/locate other utilities while digging
• Load/unload transformers and other material
• Check voltage in meter base and service stubs using voltmeter
• Assist in patrolling lines during outages
• Assist in safe roadside work zone set up
• Identify visually other utility's placement and identifying markers
• Start development of knowledge of electrical system hazard recognition
• Start development of knowledge of safe construction work practices
• Required to climb poles periodically for training purposes only and perform Bucket Truck Rescue
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Valid Georgia Driver's License
• High school education or GED
• One-year related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Read/interpret documents such as safety rules, operating & maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
• Understand and carry out detailed instructions
• Speak effectively with customers or other employees
• Know CPR and basic first aid
• Work overtime as needed
• Obtain Georgia Commercial Driver's License and Medical Examiner's Certificate of Qualification within 12 months
