SMPA is a non-profit electric cooperative with an 80-year record of service to our membership. JOB SUMMARY
  • Works under the supervision of the Working Foreman.
  • Performs duties related to construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground lines, as well as service work, as part of the SMPA Apprenticeship program.
  • Operates heavy utility trucks and equipment in various weather and terrain conditions.
  • Maintains a safe and professional work environment.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a qualified hot line school preferred.
  • Basic math skills and ability to read, write, and evaluate situations.
  • Strong work ethic, safety consciousness, and team spirit.
  • Professional and positive representation of SMPA.
  • First aid, CPR, and AED knowledge.
  • Computer skills relevant to the position.
  • Ability to follow directions and complete tasks.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Enrollment and ability to complete a 4-year (8,000 hours) Apprenticeship Program.
  • Willingness to travel for training and on-the-job learning.
  • Valid Class A Commercial Colorado driver’s license.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
  • Knowledge of line construction, service, and maintenance principles.
  • Ability to interpret staking sheets, RUS specifications, NEC, and safety codes.
  • Understanding of electrical and mechanical tagging systems.
  • Familiarity with SMPA policies and procedures.
  • Ability to interpret electrical layouts and systems.
  • Commitment to providing quality service and customer satisfaction.
