The selected candidate will perform the following duties

Respond to complaints regarding roadway defects, check building operations to ensure that contractors comply with DOT Rules and Regulations; inspect all roadway/street openings made by utility companies, plumbers, contractors, and other agencies; evaluate conditions and take appropriate action using Corrective Action Requests (CARs), Repair Orders and issuing Notices of Violation as needed; properly route daily work and submit daily reports, forms and sketches; re-inspects Corrective Action Requests that have been corrected and verify actual conditions; observe backfill and restorations on protected streets to ensure compliance with Local Law 14,Inspectors are required to search, inspect, log and maintain all field work created in the Dynamic Access System (DASH), using a tablet; appear in court when necessary; operate a passenger vehicle and monitor vehicle mileage; maintain field and office equipment and communication devices; perform related duties.

The Apprentice Inspector (Highways And Sewers) Position Is An Apprenticeship Program With Various Salary Levels. Once In The Program And After Successfully Completing a Probationary Period, Salary Will Automatically Increase Each Year (annual Anniversary Of The Original Appointment Date) To The Following Designation Levels

New Hire Rate $36,081 Incumbent Rate:$41,493

After completion of the first year $39,200 Incumbent Rate:$45,080

After completion of the second year $48,747

After completion of the third year $52,728

After completion of the fourth year $56,703

Minimum Qualifications

License Requirement

Must possess a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.

Preferred Skills

Preference will be given to candidate possessing a four year high school diploma or its equivalent. THERE ARE NO FORMAL EDUCATION OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
