Apprentice I: Operations
JOB SUMMARY
The three-year Apprenticeship Program gives motivated employees an opportunity for supervised on-the-job training in a wide variety of work including preventive maintenance, plumbing, electric, HVAC/controls, and general maintenance. The goal for this Program is to better prepare our employees for leadership roles within schools. As a grade 7, the Apprentice will participate in work assignment rotations every 4 months for a two-year period between Preventive Maintenance, Maintenance, and School-based facilities. The period of rotation and length of apprenticeship may be subject to change based on the needs of Operations. The third year of the Apprenticeship Program involves working closely with the Preventive Maintenance Office to provide support services throughout school facilities. Starting the third year, the Apprentice is eligible to apply for promotional opportunities. An Apprentice who does not apply for or is not selected for a promotional opportunity may be subject to job placement by Operations as needed. The Apprentice will work occasional overtime (summer and other peak periods), mid-shift, and night work based on work assignment rotation. Note: A satisfactory rating is required for at least two out of three work assignment rotations during the first year to remain in the program. If ineligible to remain in the program the apprentice will return to his/her former position or to a comparable position. If during the first year an apprentice has one work assignment rotation that is rated unsatisfactory, he/she will be given the opportunity to repeat the rotation. A satisfactory rating on all three rotations of the first year of the program is required to advance to the second year of the program.
