The Service Apprentice reports to the Area Service Manager and is responsible for assisting in a range of refrigeration/HVAC jobs for industrial and commercial customers.
Customer-based activities involved in this position require an individual who is decisive, tactful, dependable, and who possesses initiative and the ability to communicate well with all customer groups. The Service Apprentice must be able to assist in accurately diagnosing and efficiently accomplishing a job to the mutual benefit of the customer and Capstone Mechanical. Job-related contact can occur with virtually all demographic groups, with most of the contacts being service customers, other Capstone Mechanical technicians, the Area Service Manager, and the Field Service Coordinator.
Summary of Duties:
- Serving as a member of the Service Department team which is organized to conduct HVACR servicing jobs promptly.
- Performing routine HVACR service activities with direct oversight or on-site assistance.
- Performing related duties as directed by the Area Service Manager.
- Assisting in installation, inspection, maintenance, and repairs of refrigeration.
- Assisting on installs and troubleshooting of specialized refrigeration equipment.
- Assisting in brazing and soldering of refrigerant lines.
- Assisting in charging and checking equipment refrigerant levels.
- Assisting in performing pre-start up checks on equipment and adjusts as necessary.
Job Qualifications:
- High school graduate and/or be enrolled in a post-secondary HVACR program of instruction of two or more years.
- Good verbal and reading skills, including the ability to read and apply manufacturers' instructions and to clearly communicate with commercial customers, suppliers, and other Capstone Mechanical employees.
- Physical ability to perform all duties noted above under the conditions, circumstances, and extreme weather conditions.
- Interest and initiative in maintaining and advancing HVACR skills through a combination of self-study, company training, manufacturers' workshops, and other professional development.
- Current Texas operator's license and the ability to operate all vehicles in the corporate fleet within 30 days of initial employment. Incumbent must be insurable by current Capstone Mechanical insurance.
- Ability to work under pressures of time, a non-standard schedule, weather, customer needs, and backlog.
- Specialized knowledge to analyze and solve complex issues.
- Continuous, concentrated mental and visual effort to plan and perform complex work.
- Maintain a valid TDLR card.
- Possess a valid EPA card.
