Job summary

HII Newport News Shipbuilding is seeking an Apprentice Academic Instructor to design and deliver training programs for apprentices. You will develop tests, visual aids, and materials; conduct classes and evaluate student progress to prepare personnel for higher responsibility positions.

Responsibilities include updating lesson plans, delivering lectures, maintaining policy compliance, and coordinating with craft instructors.

Qualifications

• Must have bachelor's degree and 6 years of relevant exempt experience; master's degree and 4 years of relevant exempt experience.
• Equivalents to bachelor’s degree may be: NNPS graduate; associate degree with 2 years relevant exempt or 4 years non-exempt; military paygrade E-5 or above; high school with 4–8 years relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Prepare for instruction for one or more courses, assist with updating materials and syllabi.
• Conduct classes and present instructional material using appropriate strategies.
• Evaluate apprentice progress through assignments and tests.
• Provide extra help outside hours for apprentices who need it.
• Stay current with teaching content and methods related to shipbuilding.
• Support other school areas as needed.
• Maintain communication with instructors to keep academic instruction relevant.
• Assist the manager with records, scheduling, and curriculum documentation.
