Job description

Surprise, AZ | Full-time | $20-$24/hour

Looking to build a career in residential construction? TRU Builders is looking for a dependable, hands-on Apprentice Carpenter / Box Truck Driver who wants to learn the trade, work alongside experienced construction professionals, and become an important part of a growing residential construction team.

At TRU Builders, we build more than homes and buildings. We craft legacies. Our company is rooted in faith, family, craftsmanship, and doing the job with integrity.

This is not a position where you'll be doing the same task every day. You'll get hands-on exposure to residential construction while helping our crews stay organized and productive. Some days you'll be assisting a Lead Carpenter with demolition, framing, or trim work. Other days you may be picking up materials, managing tools and inventory, or making sure the crew has what it needs for the next project.

If you're reliable, organized, willing to work hard, and interested in developing real construction skills, we want to meet you.

What You'll Do
  • Assist Lead Carpenters with demolition, light framing, trim carpentry, general cleanup, and other construction activities.
  • Pick up and deliver building materials, tools, and supplies to jobsites.
  • Safely operate and care for the company box truck.
  • Confirm materials and orders are correct before leaving suppliers and ensure loads are properly secured.
  • Keep accurate records of materials, tools, deliveries, returns, and job-related paperwork.
  • Maintain organized inventory in the box truck, shop, and storage containers.
  • Monitor material levels and communicate upcoming needs to the Superintendent and project team.
  • Coordinate material returns to suppliers when needed.
  • Keep the box truck, yard, shop, and work areas clean and organized.
  • Perform routine vehicle checks and help coordinate scheduled maintenance.
  • Report damaged tools and coordinate repairs as directed.
  • Post required jobsite photos, activities, material shortages, and project updates.
  • Plan ahead to make sure crews have the right tools and materials for upcoming projects.

The position also has ongoing responsibility for truck maintenance and regular tool and material inventories, including learning the proper names and uses of materials so you can communicate effectively with the construction team.

What We're Looking For
  • Minimum 1 year of construction, carpentry, remodeling, or related hands-on experience preferred.
  • No extensive carpentry experience required if you have the right attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Comfortable safely operating a box truck.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly, with assistance for heavier materials.
  • Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in Arizona weather and active construction environments.
  • Dependable and punctual with the ability to plan ahead.
  • Organized and able to keep track of tools, materials, paperwork, and scheduled tasks.
  • Able to follow instructions and communicate effectively with Superintendents, Project Managers, Carpenters, vendors, and other team members.
  • Willing to learn construction materials, tools, terminology, and basic carpentry techniques.
  • Able to use a smartphone or mobile app for schedules, photos, timekeeping, and project updates.
  • Strong attention to safety and respect for company vehicles, tools, client homes, and jobsites.
What Success Looks Like

You show up prepared and on time. Materials arrive where they need to be. Tools and inventory stay organized and accounted for. The box truck is clean and properly maintained. You communicate issues before they become problems, and you're steadily developing your construction knowledge and carpentry skills.

What We Offer
  • $20-$24/hour, based on experience and construction knowledge
  • Full-time, year-round employment
  • Overtime opportunities as project needs require
  • Paid time off
  • Paid holidays
  • Health insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Company-provided box truck for work-related driving
  • Opportunities for hands-on training and mentorship
  • Career growth into Carpenter and Lead Carpenter positions
  • Exposure to multiple areas of residential construction
  • Company-provided or shared tools and equipment as applicable
Why TRU Builders?

This is an opportunity to learn a skilled trade, take on increasing responsibility, and build a long-term career in construction with a company that values craftsmanship, accountability, and teamwork.
