Job description

Position Summary:

The Apprentice ALineman (APA) position is a semi-skilled role involved in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical overhead distribution systems. This position requires working at various locations, potentially including travel to other states based on customer demands.

Essential Functions:

• Work safely during new construction, maintenance, or repair of energized and de-energized overhead lines.
• String overhead wire.
• Set poles and anchors.
• Install transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear.
• Troubleshoot primary and secondary systems.
• Replace fuses in transformers and clear faulted circuits.
• Work with energized high voltage systems, requiring safety and skill.
• Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools.
• Perform other related duties as required.
• Perform rigorous physical labor.
• Identify primary and secondary voltages on circuits.
• Understand induced voltage and grounding procedures.
• Use load buster tools effectively.
• Install and connect single-phase transformers.
• Safely set poles and understand equipment setup and grounding.
• Work at heights and in confined spaces.
• Properly install and remove PPE and cover-up.
• Check voltages on transformers and tie in primary conductors.
• Climb various structures and possess necessary tools.
• Phase out lines using phasing sticks and obtain recloser shots.
• Conduct pre-job or tailgate briefings.
• Perform reconductoring jobs safely.
• Work live on high voltage lines when required.
• Install and remove mechanical jumpers safely.
• Work outside, often in inclement weather.

Other Requirements:

• Minimum of 3 years of field experience.
• Effective communication in English.
• Obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days; CDL preferred.
• Willing to travel long distances on short notice and work in various locations.
• Lift over 50 lbs.
• Inspect PPE and rubber goods properly.
• Willing to work overtime, including weekends and holidays.

Physical Demands:

Regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, use hands, and reach with arms. Must meet physical demands to perform essential job functions.

Work Environment:

Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, mechanical parts, vibration, and extreme conditions at construction sites. Work is performed outdoors in various weather conditions.
