Position Summary: The Class A Lineman Transmission is a skilled position involved in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical transmission systems. This role requires working at various locations and may include travel to other states based on customer demands.
Essential Functions:
- Perform construction, maintenance, or repair work on energized and de-energized transmission systems safely.
- Lead crew members in the absence of the Foreman.
- String overhead wire, set poles and anchors, troubleshoot transmission system issues.
- Work with energized high voltage systems with care to ensure safety.
- Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools.
- Complete all other related work as required.
- Work outdoors frequently, often in inclement weather.
- Perform rigorous physical labor and identify transmission primary and secondary voltages.
- Proficient in all aspects of transmission line work, including hot stick work, reading blueprints, proper sagging, and dead-ending operations.
- Lead assembly and erection of structures, and execute hot line work on conductors.
- Operate equipment such as digger derricks, and perform bare hand work on energized lines (44KV & 100KV).
- Climb poles and towers proficiently, with skills in heavy lifting and rigging.
- Understand induced voltage, grounding procedures, and work at heights or in confined spaces.
- Install and remove PPE and cover-up properly, and climb various structures with appropriate tools.
- Use phasing sticks to phase out lines, identify puller and tensioner setups, and plan safe work based on job prints or work orders.
- Understand minimum approach distances, flagging, tagging procedures, and perform basic bucket rescue/escape.
- Conduct pre-job or tailgate briefings effectively, and perform reconductoring jobs safely.
- Inspect rubber goods, cover, and PPE properly.
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years recent field experience.
- Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days; CDL preferred.
- Willing to travel long distances and work in various locations as needed.
- Lift in excess of 50 lbs., inspect rubber goods and PPE properly.
- Willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Follow all safety rules and company policies, including working on high voltage lines.
Physical Demands: Regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, handle, and reach.
Work Environment: Typically not exposed to adverse conditions but may encounter fumes, dust, gases, or poor ventilation.
