• Hears appeals and requests for changes in valuation; may reappraise in hearings.
• Keeps abreast of local property trends and modern appraisal methods.
• Assists in providing coverage of the main office work station when needed.
• Other duties may be assigned.

SUMMARY

Appraises residential and/or non-complex multi-family real property in the City.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Makes field appraisals of non-complex real property and answers inquiries concerning appraisals
• Interviews persons familiar with property; inspects property; searches public records of sales, leases, assessments and other transactions to determine proper value
• Takes measurements of buildings, collects data relative to number of rooms, type of construction, age and other conditions affecting values, makes calculations and applies such data and analysis to appraisals of specific properties
• Collects data relative to land valuations and applies such data in appraising specific parcels of land
• Hears appeals and requests for changes in valuation, may make reappraisals in connection with hearings
• Keeps abreast of local property trends and of modern appraisal methods and techniques
• Assists in providing coverage of the main office work station when needed

Other duties may be assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university supplemented by courses in real estate, law, computer science or related field; related experience and/or training in real estate appraisal is desirable but not required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to prepare reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must possess a valid appropriate driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Must be willing to obtain a Commonwealth of Virginia Certified Residential Appraiser license within 3 years of appointment.
