The West Virginia State Tax Division is seeking a candidate who, under limited supervision, will perform supervisory work in residential, commercial, industrial, natural resources, or personal properties appraisal for taxation purposes. Work involves planning, organizing, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating the work of subordinate professional and clerical support staff in appraisal methodology, procedure, and results. This position can serve as witnesses in court and administrative hearings. The position will ensure training for new employees and/or county assessor employees. Travel will be required, including statewide and overnight travel, so a valid driver’s license is also required. Work is subject to review by an Appraiser Manager. This position may be based in any of our regional offices (Beckley, Charleston, Clarksburg, Martinsburg, Parkersburg, or Wheeling) but can be asked to travel anywhere in the state. Perform related work as required.
Employment requires a fingerprint-based criminal-background check to be provided at the West Virginia Tax Division’s expense. Failing to initiate the process, cooperate with this process, provide false or incomplete information, or discovery of disqualifying information will result in denial of, or dismissal from, employment or denial of transfer irrespective of when discovered. The chosen applicant will also be subject to a tax compliance check.

Training: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
OR
Substitution: Additional experience may substitute for the required education at a rate of one (1) year of experience for every thirty semester hours.
AND
Experience: Seven (7) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience as an appraiser.
AND
Special Requirement: A valid driver’s license is required.
