Who We’re Looking For:

We are seeking an Applied Scientist to oversee the daily operations and long-term development of Therabody Labs, our in-house science and innovation hub. This role is designed for a highly motivated professional with a strong foundation in exercise science, physiology, kinesiology, or a related health science field — and an equal passion for cross-functional collaboration and building scalable processes within the industry setting. The ideal candidate is a scientific generalist who thrives in a fast-moving environment, learns quickly, and communicates effectively across technical and non-technical teams. They will not only ensure the lab runs smoothly and safely but also play a critical role in connecting scientific insights to business impact, through direct hands-on execution. This leader will work across disciplines — from engineering and product development to marketing and leadership — translating lab results into actionable strategies that drive innovation and growth. This role is in-person 4 days a week with ~10% travel for professional conferences and collaborative off-site projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the safe, efficient, and innovative operation of the Therabody Lab.
  • Partner with Science & Innovation leadership to define lab strategy, set quarterly priorities, and execute projects aligned with business goals.
  • This includes:
  • Defining and maintaining lab infrastructure: establish and refine SOPs, oversee risk assessments, and manage scheduling, equipment, and safety compliance.
  • Driving operational excellence by introducing structure, processes, and systems that enable the lab to scale and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally (engineering, product development, marketing, leadership) to design and deliver testing programs that inform product development and validate safety and efficacy.
  • Conduct thorough literature reviews on a wide variety of wellness topics to ensure up to date substantiation, testing methodology, and technical specifications.
  • Manage end-to-end research projects that inform product decisions, including study design, data collection, analysis, reporting, and translation of findings into actionable insights.
  • Serve as a scientific thought partner for leadership, connecting technical findings with broader business objectives.
  • Foster an environment of learning, adaptability, and collaboration within the Science and Innovation team and across the company.

The Right Person Would Have:

  • Master’s degree in exercise science, exercise physiology, kinesiology, or related health science field is required.
  • Additional training, certifications, or terminal degree in exercise science-related field is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with myography, ultrasound, vascular function and muscle oxygenation sensors, and EEG equipment (preferred).
  • Strong track record of research execution — from study design to publication-ready reporting.
  • Proficiency with statistical tools (SPSS, R, or similar) and confidence analyzing both physiological and survey-based data.
  • Excellent communication skills — able to explain technical findings clearly to both scientific peers and non-scientific stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and stakeholders simultaneously, with track record of prioritization.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with an aptitude for building process in dynamic, fast-paced settings.
  • Comfort collaborating across disciplines and rolling up sleeves to work directly in the lab day-to-day.
  • Familiarity with health and wellness product development is a plus.
