Applied Scientist, SB Response Prediction and Auction Science Team

Amazon Advertising is one of Amazon's fastest growing and most profitable businesses, responsible for defining and delivering a collection of advertising products that drive discovery and sales. Our Auction team in Sponsored Brands is pivotal in shaping the future of advertising technology.

The SB Auction team's role is to develop optimized and fair auction systems for sponsored brands that deliver value for advertisers while enhancing the shopping experience for customers. We collaborate across Amazon Ads to build scalable ML infrastructure systems that accelerate scientific innovation, facilitate business growth, and promote technological advancement.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop optimization techniques (e.g., multi-objective optimization) to balance goals such as maximizing revenue, increasing user engagement, and ensuring fair ad distribution.
  2. Build, experiment with, optimize, and deploy machine learning models in production, working closely with software engineers.
  3. Conduct A/B testing and fine-tune models for real-world effectiveness to ensure optimal system performance.
  4. Run large-scale experiments to evaluate different auction strategies, bidding algorithms, and ad targeting techniques, utilizing methodologies like multi-arm bandit or reinforcement learning.
  5. Establish scalable, efficient, automated processes for data analysis, model development, validation, and deployment.
  6. Communicate insights and results clearly to non-technical stakeholders, including product managers, advertisers, and executives.
  7. Research and innovate with new machine learning approaches.
Basic Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience building models for business applications.
  • PhD or Master’s degree with 4+ years of experience in CS, CE, ML, or related fields.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C++, Python, or related.
  • Experience in algorithms, data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel/distributed/high-performance computing.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Unix/Linux environments.
  • Professional software development experience.
