Amazon is seeking an Applied Scientist to build the scientific intelligence layer powering satellite manufacturing. You will develop ML models transforming fragmented data into actionable intelligence to improve how satellites are built.

The role tackles high-impact problems with noisy, distributed data, supporting AI-enabled workflows from non-conformance to predictive test optimization, aiming to reduce defects and accelerate production.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of building models for business applications.
• PhD or Master's + 4+ years in CS/CE/ML or related field.
• Experience in patents or publications at top-tier conferences or journals.
• Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language.
• Experience in algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, high-performance computing.

Responsibilities

• Translate ambiguous manufacturing problems into defined scientific problems and evaluation criteria.
• Design, train, and deploy ML models including LLM-based systems and retrieval models.
• Develop models using large-scale, noisy datasets with imperfect ground truth.
• Apply state-of-the-art techniques in anomaly detection, root-cause inference, multimodal learning, IR, and generative AI.
• Design experiments and evaluation frameworks capturing failure modes and distribution shifts.
• Build production-quality scientific components with testing and monitoring.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Test, and engineering partners to translate needs into solutions.
• Analyze model and system performance and iteratively improve deployments.
• Document scientific approaches, results, and decisions for reproducibility.
