Job summary

Amazon Science is seeking an Applied Scientist to push the boundaries of LLMs, semantic retrieval, and customer understanding at scale. You will work on systems that surface precise context in milliseconds, with end-to-end ownership from research to production.

You will collaborate across Alexa, Search, and Recommendations, mentor peers, and design experiments that translate into real customer impact while advancing state-of-the-art AI at Amazon.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of building models for business applications.
• PhD, or Master's with 4+ years in CS/CE/ML or related field.
• Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language.
• Experience with algorithms, data structures, data mining, and HPC.
• Experience in designing experiments and statistical analysis.
• Patents or publications at top-tier conferences or journals.

Responsibilities

• Invent and improve contextual retrieval, relevance scoring, and LLM-based summarization.
• Fine-tune and evaluate language models for domain understanding.
• Design experiments to measure real customer impact.
• Ship production systems and iterate with live metrics.
• Collaborate across teams (Alexa, Search, Recommendations) as a platform.
• Mentor team members and guide technical roadmap.
