The OTS DataTech team is at the forefront of driving enterprise-wide data strategy and technological innovation across OTS. Our charter spans the development of AI/ML-driven capabilities that fuel automation, optimize efficiency, and unlock new potential across various OTS domains. We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Applied Scientist with deep expertise in Generative AI (GenAI) to build state-of-the-art AI-driven solutions that enhance customer experience and streamline operations.

As an Applied Scientist at OTS DataTech, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the vision, roadmap, design, research, development, and deployment of AI-powered solutions. You will focus on pioneering novel research in GenAI, designing intelligent, self-service systems that integrate state-of-the-art LLMs, multi-agent systems, and human-AI interaction frameworks. You will contribute to the advancement of responsible AI, addressing challenges in AI safety, robustness, explainability, and alignment as part of building next-generation AI systems for Amazon’s global operations.

This is an opportunity to drive foundational research and deliver applied innovation at scale. You will engage in collaborative exploration across disciplines, publish and present at internal and external forums, and contribute to an evolving ecosystem of intelligent automation that enhances productivity, and customer experience across OTS.

You will also lead the design and implementation of robust, scalable automation systems that integrate seamlessly into Amazon’s complex operational landscape. You will be closely partnering with a cross-functional team of stakeholders including Applied Scientists, Data Scientists, Data Engineers, Software Development Engineers, Product Managers, and Technical Program Managers on a daily basis.

Key job responsibilities
- Conduct applied research in LLMs and multi-agent systems, driving innovation from prototyping to production.
- Develop and deploy state-of-the-art Generative AI models to solve complex problems in automation, optimization, and human-AI interaction.
- Design intelligent AI agents capable of autonomous decision-making, task execution, and integration with enterprise systems.
- Apply supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning to improve model performance, personalization, and adaptability.
- Lead experimentation and model evaluation to ensure robustness, safety, and real-world performance.
- Design and implement scalable, reliable AI/ML solutions integrated into Amazon’s operations.
- Integrate AI capabilities seamlessly into OTS platforms, ensuring scalability, reliability, and real-world impact.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, science, and product teams to ensure seamless integration of AI systems.
- Contribute to Amazon’s and external AI/ML community through knowledge sharing, publications, and technical leadership.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- PhD, or Master's degree and 4+ years of CS, CE, ML or related field experience
- 2+ years of building machine learning models or developing algorithms for business application experience
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
- Experience applying theoretical models in an applied environment
- Experience in patents or publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals
- Experience in professional software development
- Strong background in machine learning, including supervised and unsupervised learning algorithms.
- Experience developing, building and implementing complex software systems, especially involving ML, that have been successfully delivered to customers.
- Knowledge of Generative AI (GenAI) and its applications.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience with fine-tuning and deploying Large Language Models (LLMs) for customer facing applications.
- Knowledge of RAG and its applications.
- Experience with AWS technologies.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
