Applied Scientist - Computer Vision (Stealth startup - early stage opportunity)
We are on a mission to revolutionize online coaching and e-commerce with AI. Our team consists of a few ex-Amazon/ex-EBay employees, primarily based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Join us early and play a pivotal role in harnessing AI's power to disrupt online coaching and e-commerce. The company is in stealth mode, offering remote work options, with a potential transition to full-time in 3-6 months accompanied by generous equity.
Responsibilities
- Become a resident subject matter expert in AI, focusing on computer vision, deep learning, and semi-supervised and unsupervised learning.
- Conduct research and develop innovative solutions in machine learning and computer vision.
- Build visual models to analyze and process image, video, and text data, integrating external and internal multi-modal data sources.
- Develop scalable vision systems for item understanding, pose estimation, class-imbalanced classifiers, identification, and segmentation.
- Translate ideas into products using paradigms like deep learning, semi-supervised learning, and active learning, utilizing Python and TensorFlow for model training and data analysis.
- Analyze data to extract insights and improve existing models.
Minimum Qualifications
- A strong desire to build and scale a startup from early stages.
- Experience in machine learning and computer vision, in research and/or production environments.
- Proficiency with computer vision technologies and frameworks such as OpenCV, TensorFlow, and PyTorch.
- Master’s or PhD degree with 4+ years of industry experience in relevant areas.
Required Skills
- Experience with computer vision or multi-modal tasks like semantic segmentation, object detection, instance segmentation, text-to-image synthesis, etc.
- Knowledge of neural networks, CNNs, and image processing techniques.
- Understanding of multimodal models, modern ML architectures (transformers, diffusion models), and imitation/reinforcement learning.
- Hands-on experience with AI/ML concepts, algorithms, including large language models (e.g., GPT-3, LaMDA) and computer vision (e.g., CNNs, object detection).
- Experience in quality detection, pattern recognition, and anomaly detection using machine learning techniques.
Nice to Have
- Experience with open-source frameworks for language model applications like LangChain, LlamaIndex, etc.
- Experience with large-scale ML systems, including profiling, debugging, and understanding system performance and scalability.
- Peer-reviewed publications in multi-modality, large language models, continual learning, or federated learning.
Job Types: Full-time with equity, Part-time, or Contract at $50/hour, with potential to transition to full-time in 3-6 months.
