Job summary

Helsing in Washington, DC is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer, Detection and Tracking to own the detection and tracking models powering Altra and HX-2. You will train, tune, and deploy models against US datasets, focusing on production reliability.

This role requires 5+ years in applied ML or CV, strong Python and PyTorch, and experience with object detection and multi-object tracking, plus edge deployment. On-site in DC with competitive compensation.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in applied machine learning or computer vision.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; Master's or PhD strongly preferred.
• Production experience training and deploying object detection models — not just research or academic projects.
• Proficient in Python and PyTorch or a comparable deep learning framework.
• Strong intuition for data quality; you can look at annotated datasets, training curves, and evaluation metrics.
• Experience with the full model training lifecycle: data curation, annotation management, training, evaluation, and deployment.
• Experience optimizing models for deployment on SWaP-constrained and edge platforms (TensorRT, ONNX, quantization).
• Understand multi-object tracking and have implemented or worked with tracking algorithms in practice.
• Can read and contextualize scientific papers in computer vision and apply findings to production systems.
• U.S. citizen with an active security clearance or the ability to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Train and fine-tune detection models on mission-specific datasets.
• Implement and improve multi-object tracking pipelines.
• Evaluate model performance and diagnose failure modes.
• Manage data pipeline end-to-end: annotation, curation, augmentation.
• Optimize models for SWaP-constrained and edge deployments.
• Collaborate with systems engineers to integrate models into the Altra platform.
• Work across sensor modalities including electro-optical and infrared.
