Job summary

The Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability's Woods Institute seeks an Applied Scientific Researcher to advance lead-exposure research through environmental sampling and analytical chemistry. Based on Stanford's campus with a hybrid option, you will work with a global network to identify and mitigate lead sources and develop rapid measurement methods.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 4+ years of relevant experience; or Master’s with 2+ years; or PhD in a related field.
• Experience with environmental sampling and lab analyses using ICP‑MS, ICP‑OES, XRF, and colorimetry.
• Strong documentation, QA/QC, and data management abilities.
• Ability to travel domestically or internationally.

Responsibilities

• Develop and adapt protocols for environmental sampling, analysis, and surveys with the Director.
• Oversee lab techniques for elemental/isotopic analyses (ICP‑MS, ICP‑OES, XRF, colorimetry).
• Produce detailed documentation: SOPs, data dictionaries, lab manuals to ensure data integrity.
• Write and edit research materials, reports, manuscripts for donors and collaborators.
• Identify funding opportunities and support grant proposals in collaboration with the team.
• Train staff, students, and interns on protocols and documentation practices.
