Job summary

AppFolio is seeking a Manager, Applied Data Science to lead the Data Scientists who build AI and ML products for the business, including a signal engine, Chat-to-Data, and forecasting automations. You will be a player-coach, learning the business and then directing the work to scale impact.

You’ll coordinate with Sales, Marketing, and Finance, set standards for the Cerberus model fleet, and drive governance across data platforms while growing your team and capabilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field and 8+ years building and deploying predictive models in production for business stakeholders.
• 2+ years leading data scientists as a people manager or technical lead.
• Strong programming background with Python and SQL and production deployment experience.
• Experience deploying end-to-end classification and propensity models, with next-best-action design bonus.
• Experience building and evaluating LLM-based products in production, including analytics.

Responsibilities

• Own signal modeling and scoring logic for all AppFolio products.
• Own shared data science services and forecasting automations.
• Set coding standards for model fleets and ensure governance in Data Marts.
• Review PRs and ensure quality and risk of models, analyses, and automations.
• Coordinate with Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, and Finance to align roadmaps.
• Set the direction for applied AI/ML within Data Science & Analytics.
• Manage and grow a team of Data Scientists: 1:1s, coaching, hiring.
