Job summary

Lumen is seeking a highly technical Applied AI Scientist to design, develop, deploy, and optimize AI-powered solutions across the enterprise. You will partner with business, product, and engineering teams to rapidly prototype and deliver production-ready AI capabilities.

The role blends ML, generative AI, NLP, and MLOps best practices to improve customer experiences and operational efficiency. A hands-on builder who translates emerging AI tech into business value will excel here.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in applied AI, ML, data science or related field.
• Experience deploying production AI/ML solutions.
• Expertise in ML, statistics, predictive modeling, experimentation and analytics.
• Experience building solutions with LLMs, RAG, vector databases and modern AI frameworks.
• Proficiency in Python and AI/ML toolsets (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face, LangChain, MLflow).
• Experience with cloud platforms and production software environments.
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, deploy AI/ML solutions from concept to production.
• Partner with business and product stakeholders to define objectives and measure impact.
• Build solutions using ML, generative AI, RAG, NLP, analytics and agentic workflows.
• Develop evaluation frameworks for quality, accuracy, reliability, performance.
• Collaborate with Engineering to operationalize AI with MLOps and LLMOps best practices.
• Contribute reusable code, models and tools to accelerate AI adoption.
• Stay updated on emerging AI technologies and propose innovative approaches.
• Share knowledge and best practices across the team.
