Appen is seeking an Applied Research Engineer to turn research concepts into practical AI systems. You will independently explore approaches, build reusable assets, and partner with the GenAI Research team to support frontier initiatives and customer engagements.

You will design RL environments, develop evaluation benchmarks, and deploy self-hosted models for experiments and automation, while documenting results for reproducibility and collaboration.

Qualificações

• 3+ years of professional engineering or relevant AI/ML experience.
• Strong software engineering skills building reliable AI systems.
• Hands-on experience building agentic systems, RL environments, or LLM pipelines.
• Experience building evaluation harnesses or model testing pipelines.
• Ability to work independently from idea to working solution.
• Strong documentation and reproducibility practices.

Responsabilidades

• Build reinforcement learning and agent environments for real customer/use cases with evaluation scoring.
• Develop benchmarks and evaluation harnesses for model/data quality across metrics.
• Build LLM pipelines and agentic systems for research, evaluation, and trials.
• Run fine-tuning, adapters, and model experiments to study data impact on behavior.
• Deploy local or self-hosted models for evaluation and automation workflows.
• Document experiments, configurations, data, results, and limitations for reuse.
• Collaborate with GenAI Research to turn work into reusable customer assets.
