Job summary

CHAOS Industries in San Francisco is seeking a highly motivated Applied AI Engineer to help develop, integrate, and deploy AI/ML-powered capabilities across our product lines, with emphasis on defense applications requiring extreme accuracy. You will work closely with data scientists, software engineers, product teams, and mission stakeholders to turn advanced AI research into reliable software.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, Machine Learning, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field.
• 2+ years of professional software development experience.
• Experience with AI/ML model integration, model serving infrastructure, or model lifecycle management.
• Experience with APIs, distributed systems, containers, CI/CD, observability, and edge deployment environments/GPU optimization
• Willingness to travel 10-20% and work on-site in San Francisco with 2+ days/week in the office.

Responsibilities

• Build applied AI systems across CHAOS product lines, including model integration and production-facing AI capabilities.
• Develop production-quality software for data pipelines, model serving, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
• Evaluate model performance under real-world conditions and improve robustness, including adversarial and edge deployments.
• Collaborate with product and mission teams to collect data, verify hypotheses, and deploy robust models.
• Create rapid prototypes with stakeholders and iteratively production-ready implementations.
• Contribute to AI system reliability through testing, benchmarking, and observability.
• Learn from existing codebases and domain experts to drive execution across teams.
• Manage time effectively across meetings, discovery, implementation, experimentation, and production support.
