Edison Smart® in New York City is hiring an Applied AI Engineer to build production-grade AI systems inside a fast-growing, startup-like team backed by an established investment firm.

You'll work on agentic platforms, vector databases, and orchestration to enable investment, data, and engineering teams with measurable ROI.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in software, ML or AI infra engineering, ideally from AI-native startups or high-performance teams.
• Hands-on depth with LLMs, agentic systems, RAG, vector databases and production MLOps.
• Strong Python and experience with PyTorch, LangChain, LangSmith, LlamaIndex and Kubernetes across AWS, Azure or GCP.
• A builder who enjoys getting things from zero to production.
• Financial services experience is a plus, not required.

• Build and ship production-grade AI applications using LLMs, agentic workflows and retrieval systems.
• Design agent frameworks and the infrastructure to train, evaluate and deploy them at scale.
• Build internal tooling such as research copilots, workflow automation and document intelligence platforms.
• Own AI infrastructure including vector databases, orchestration, inference pipelines, evals and deployment tooling.
• Collaborate with investment, data and platform teams to turn workflows into working systems.
• Help shape the firm’s long-term AI engineering strategy.

Applied AI Engineer | New York City (Hybrid) | Up to $500k Total Comp

A global multi-strategy investment firm managing multiple billions in assets has just launched an internal Applied AI team, and it’s hiring.

This is a 0 to 1 build. The team is seven people, operates like an early-stage startup, and sits inside a firm with nearly two decades of consistent performance and offices across the US, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. You get startup ownership and pace with the stability and resources of an established platform behind you.

What the team is building

The Applied AI team is building the firm’s internal AI platform: agentic systems, an agentic workforce, and the automation that powers how 500+ people work. The focus is enablement, not replacement. The goal is to give investment, operations and engineering teams AI tooling that removes friction and delivers measurable ROI.

You’ll be embedded with the people using what you build, which means fast feedback, real users and visible impact.

What you’ll do

• Build and ship production-grade AI applications using LLMs, agentic workflows and retrieval systems
• Design agent frameworks and the infrastructure to train, evaluate and deploy them at scale
• Build internal tooling such as research copilots, workflow automation and document intelligence platforms
• Own AI infrastructure including vector databases, orchestration, inference pipelines, evals and deployment tooling
• Work directly with investment, data and platform teams to turn real workflows into working systems
• Help shape the firm’s long-term AI engineering strategy

What we’re looking for

• 5+ years in software, ML or AI infrastructure engineering, ideally from AI-native startups or high-performance engineering teams
• Hands-on depth with LLMs, agentic systems, RAG, vector databases and production MLOps
• Strong Python and experience with tools like PyTorch, LangChain, LangSmith, LlamaIndex and Kubernetes across AWS, Azure or GCP
• A builder who likes being in the weeds and gets things from zero to production
• Financial services experience is a plus, not a requirement. Strong engineers from top tech or AI-first companies are actively encouraged to apply

Compensation and benefits

• Base salary: $150,000 to $300,000
• Total compensation up to $500,000 including performance bonus
