Job summary

APM Terminals Elizabeth seeks an Applications Specialist to support strategy, performance, reliability, and continuous improvement of operational software across OT and IT systems such as TOS, GOS, ECS. You’ll help deliver measurable operational value by enhancing resilience and safety while enabling modernization initiatives.

You will collaborate with operations, IT, vendors, and global stakeholders on technology deployments, system integration, and live operations, all while following HSSE

Qualifications

  • Degree in IT/CS/Industrial Eng or related field.
  • 1–3 years end-user support across software/hardware/mobile devices.
  • Experience with OT infrastructure and operational tech systems.

Responsibilities

  • Support delivery of OT application initiatives aligned with strategy and priorities.
  • Improve system reliability through incident resolution and root-cause analysis.
  • Assist deployment, integration, testing, and readiness of OT software.
  • Collaborate with vendors and system integrators for successful delivery.
  • Resolve incidents within SLA and escalate as needed.
  • Maintain cybersecurity compliance and IT/OT standards.
  • Manage IT/OT hardware and software changes and readiness activities.

APM Terminals operates one of the world’s most integrated port and terminal networks, where business applications such as TOS, GOS, ECS, and other operational systems are central to safe, reliable, and technology-driven terminal performance.

As an Applications Specialist based at APM Terminals Elizabeth, you will support the strategy, performance, reliability, and continuous improvement of operational software systems across the terminal. You will help deliver measurable operational value by improving system resilience, safety, standardization, and productivity while supporting both day-to-day operations and strategic modernization initiatives.

Working closely with operations, IT, labor relations, global functions, vendors, and other stakeholders, you will help ensure reliable application performance while contributing to the successful integration of technology solutions associated with the Elizabeth Upgrade Project.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the delivery of business application initiatives aligned with terminal operational technology strategy and business priorities.
  • Drive system reliability and performance through incident resolution, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Support the deployment, integration, testing, and operational readiness of existing and new OT software solutions.
  • Collaborate with vendors, OEMs, and system integrators to ensure successful delivery of technology solutions.
  • Resolve incidents and service requests within agreed service levels, escalating complex issues when required.
  • Support compliance with cybersecurity requirements, enterprise IT/OT standards, labor agreements, and operational procedures.
  • Maintain, configure, install, and replace IT and OT hardware and software components while supporting change management and operational readiness activities.
What We Are Looking For
  • Continuous improvement mindset: we are looking for someone who brings a thoughtful improvement mindset—curious about how work gets done and motivated to make meaningful, sustainable improvements over time.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience providing end-user support across software, hardware, and mobile devices, with strong troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Hands‑on experience working with OT infrastructure components and operational technology systems.
  • Knowledge of operational systems such as GOS, TOS, AD, MTS, OCR, SCADA, ECS, or comparable environments.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity frameworks and enterprise IT standards within OT environments.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, problem‑solving, and ownership skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Ability to obtain or renew a TWIC card and Port Access Card as required for terminal access.

This role combines office-based work with regular visits to active terminal, yard, equipment, and construction areas. You will work closely with operational teams to support technology deployments, system integration efforts, and live operational environments while adhering to all HSSE and PPE requirements.

Salary: $80K - $90K
Location: Elizabeth, NJ
