Application Program Architect Consultant

Position Title: Application Solutions Architect Consultant

Contract Duration: 18-24 Months

Work Location: Richmond, VA

Work Arrangement: Hybrid (3 Days Onsite)

The Application Program Architect role is a pivotal position within the Logistics Modernization and Optimization project, tasked with leading the end‑to‑end design, development, and implementation of a custom scheduling and logistics application. This role drives the transformation of legacy manual processes into a streamlined, automated system, significantly improving operational efficiency, reducing errors, and delivering measurable ROI. The architect will serve as a strategic leader, guiding technical execution, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems, and delivering data‑driven insights to stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Lead a comprehensive assessment of current manual logistics and scheduling workflows.
  • Develop data‑informed recommendations and a strategic roadmap for a custom application solution.
  • Define POC milestones, ROI targets, and business justification for proposed automation.
  • Design a scalable technical architecture that integrates with existing centralized databases.
  • Orchestrate internal IT teams throughout the build phase, ensuring adherence to technical standards and project timelines.
  • Implement automation tools to capture logistics data at order entry, eliminating manual entry and spreadsheet dependency.
  • Deliver POC demonstrations to executive leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Produce a detailed phased project plan with clear deliverables, timelines, and milestones.
  • Prepare and present ROI and justification reports highlighting cost savings and error reduction.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in application architecture and enterprise‑level software development.
  • Demonstrated success in designing custom applications (not off‑the‑shelf solutions).
  • Proven expertise in process automation, system integration, and enterprise‑scale application deployment.
  • Deep understanding of database architecture, API design, and modern development frameworks.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with experience engaging stakeholders and managing technical teams.
Preferred Skills
  • Prior experience in logistics, supply chain technology, or related operational systems.
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies and phased implementation approaches.
  • Ability to produce comprehensive technical documentation and detailed ROI analysis.
