Job description

OVERVIEW

We are partnering with a leading healthcare system to expand our Developer & Employee Experience Team with a specializedPlatform Engineer, Consultant. This role is central to building a scalable Developer Enablement Platform, focused on integrating APIs into infrastructure systems and enabling faster, more reliable application development across the enterprise.

This is a contract-to-hire opportunity to work on a forward-looking team that sits above core infrastructure, bridging infrastructure and application development by building and maintaining the API integration layer and developer tooling.

*Must be able to work in the United States without sponsorship*

• Duration: 6 -12 months contract to hire
• Location: 100% remote, however for this position we can only hire from: California, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington
• Rate:: $65-$90hr DOE

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design, build, and support a scalable Developer Platform that integrates application-layer APIs with existing infrastructure services.
• Develop API gateways, developer tools, and integration pipelines to enable internal teams to consume infrastructure resources as services.
• Build automation frameworks using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with a focus on API-driven provisioning, abstracting infrastructure complexity for developers.
• Implement and support RESTful APIs, API proxies, service meshes, and authentication/authorization mechanisms (OAuth2, OpenID Connect, etc.).
• Partner with DevOps, SREs, App Dev, and Security teams to build secure, reusable services that accelerate application deployment.
• Write clear, modular, reusable IaC code using tools like Ansible and Terraform emphasizing extensibility and integration capabilities.
• Contribute to API documentation, developer onboarding materials, and platform standards to enable self-service consumption of infrastructure.
• Lead technical discussions and guide internal teams in API-first, event-driven architecture practices.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 7+ years of experience in Platform Engineering, DevOps, or Software Engineering roles.
• Strong experience in designing and building developer platforms that enable self-service and infrastructure abstraction.
• Proven expertise integrating and managing RESTful APIs in enterprise environments.
• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (Ansible, Terraform, or similar), applied to developer enablement or API service provisioning.
• Proficiency in scripting and coding (e.g., Python, Go, or similar languages used in platform development).
• Experience with cloud-native technologies (Azure), API management tools (e.g., Apigee, Kong, Azure API Management).
• Familiarity with service mesh technologies (Istio, Linkerd) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong understanding of modern DevOps, GitOps, and developer experience (DevEx) principles.
• Preferred
  • AZ-400, AZ-900, or equivalent certifications.
  • RedHat DO-374/DO-414 or equivalent.
  • Experience with OpenAPI/Swagger, Postman collections, and API-first design.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes and container orchestration.
  • Experience building internal platforms for large, regulated enterprises.
