Job summary

Stellantis is seeking an Application Engineer in Michigan to act as primary owner of the applications matrix and interface between the Chief Engineer and vehicle teams for transmission and driveline programs.

You will coordinate design changes, lead duties cycle analyses, and ensure alignment with vehicle platforms while collaborating with global teams and suppliers. Strong mechanical background and MS Office skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years of engineering experience in product development design and release, with propulsion systems experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with global teams.
  • Understanding of automotive manufacturing and quality processes.
  • Advanced English language skills (read/write).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
  • Strong work ethic, organization and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Chief Engineer in executing designated programs.
  • Develop high-level Applications Matrix with interface requirements for programs.
  • Ensure applications stay within transmission and driveline design envelopes.
  • Coordinate packaging studies and design freezes for vehicle platforms.
  • Negotiate requirements with vehicle platforms based on product constraints.
  • Own Transmission Technical Specifications and communicate requirements (torque, NVH, mass, etc.).
  • Define and track vehicle/system level objectives.
  • Lead Virtual Duty Cycle analysis with propulsion and loads teams.
  • Coordinate external design changes requiring platform approval and perform TOS.
  • Develop and manage external design issues and change management.
  • Review and approve the Application Checklist for CN.
  • Coordinate design variants including controls and calibration strategies.
  • Represent organization on plant requirements and events (pilot builds, EOL tests).
  • Drive Layered Audits with supplier plants to ensure process robustness.
  • Lead Build Readiness tasks (instrumentation plan, dyno support).
  • Develop Benchmarking Plan with the Assistant Chief Engineer.
  • Coordinate COE assessments of bulletins and responses.
  • Coordinate data generation/approval of AES/BES regulatory documents.
  • Update approvals of owner’s manuals and CP standards.

Job description

The Application Engineers (AEs) reports to the Chief Engineer and acts as the primary owner of the application matrix and interface between the CE group and vehicle team for requirements and delivery of the transmission and driveline products, including assembly plants.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for supporting the Chief Engineer (CE) in the execution of designated programs
  • Supports the development of high-level Applications Matrix (working with the Design System Engineer) including all interface requirements for given programs for all variants and various vehicle platforms.
  • Ensures all applications fall within the design envelopes of the the transmission and driveline products
  • Coordinates packaging studies with each vehicle application to ensure all clearance requirements are met. Leads advanced vehicle adaptation designs studies and freezes
  • Negotiates requirements with vehicle platforms based on product limitations and capabilities
  • Owns the Transmission Technical Specifications and communicates application specific requirements to the team (i.e. max torque, NVH, FE, tire size, FD ratio selection, mass, etc.)
  • Defines and tracks adherence to robust vehicle level and system level/sub-system functional objectives
  • Leads and coordinates the required Virtual Duty Cycle analysis(es) working with Propulsion Systems Virtual PT (Rotational) and Vehicle Loads / Durability team for Structural duty cycle (BCxx)
  • Coordinates external interface(s) design changes that require platform approval. Perform TOS as required.
  • Develops, manages & communicates external design or assembly issues and change management.
  • Responsible for the review and approval of the Application Checklist for each CN
  • Coordination of application specific design variants (TCMs, adaptive hardware, dampers, vents, LV & HV wire connections, bracket attachments, etc) including controls & calibration strategies
  • Represents chief organization on vehicle assembly plant requirements & events (i.e. supports pilot builds, EOL test, VIN marking, build issues, etc.).
  • Drives Layered Audits process across supplier plant(s) to ensure manufacturing / heat-treatment / assembly processes and control plan robustness
  • Leads Build Readiness tasks (instrumentation plan, dyno support)
  • Develops Benchmarking Plan working closely with Assistant Chief Engineer on competitive products
  • Coordinates COE assessments of bulletins and engineering response to bulletins working closely with ACE (or CE)
  • Coordinates data generation and approvals of AES/BES regulatory documents
  • Updates and coordinates approvals of owner’s manuals
  • Updates and coordinates approvals of CP, Compliance Report Standards
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related degree field
  • A minimum of 3 years of engineering experience in product development design and release with a minimum of 1 or more years of propulsion systems experience
  • Demonstrated experience working with collaborative and global teams
  • Understanding of typical automotive manufacturing and quality processes
  • Advanced English language skills 90% (Read and Write).
  • Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
  • Excellent work ethic, organization skills, and communication skills
