About the Role
Reporting to the Robotics Sales Director, the Technical Application Engineer, Robotics is a field‑oriented technical role focused on supporting ESAB’s robotic welding solutions at integrator and customer sites. The position involves both direct and partner‑facing activities, with on‑site support, remote troubleshooting, and technical training.
Key Responsibilities
Integrator Support- Act as technical contact for system integrators during sales, installation, and commissioning.
- Provide guidance on product selection, system configuration, and application setup.
- Review proposals and designs to ensure alignment with ESAB standards and customer requirements.
- Support integrators during demonstrations, FATs, and SATs.
- Deliver technical training to integrator teams.
- Offer remote and occasional on‑site troubleshooting assistance.
Direct Technical Services- Install, commission, and validate systems at customer sites when no integrator is available.
- Provide on‑site and remote support for mechanical, electrical, and software issues.
- Perform system checks, preventative maintenance, and repairs.
- Conduct operator and maintenance training.
- Carry out FAT and SAT processes.
Pre‑Sales & Application Support- Serve as a technical resource during customer visits and needs assessments.
- Configure solutions to meet production requirements.
- Support product demonstrations and technical validations.
- Provide technical input for key account opportunities.
Product Feedback & Improvement- Share field observations and customer feedback with Service Support & Training teams.
- Assist with new product introductions through field testing.
- Support military approvals and quality team work.
- Maintain technical documentation, service guides, and application notes.
Qualifications
Required- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Robotics, or related field) or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 3 years in a technical role involving robotic systems, welding equipment, or automation.
- Knowledge of welding processes such as GMAW and GTAW.
- Familiarity with robotics programming, control systems, and basic electrical/mechanical systems.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
- Clear communicator comfortable with technical teams and customers.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver’s license with clean record.
Preferred- Experience with channel partners, dealers, or system integrators.
- PLC programming or broader automation experience.
- Welding certification or hands‑on welding background.
- Multilingual skills.
Working Conditions
Regular travel (over 50% of the time) to integrator and customer sites, often with overnight stays.
- Physical demands include climbing stairs, walking, stooping, standing, and lifting up to 50lb. or pushing up to 200lb.
- Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in manufacturing and plant locations.
- Possible exposure to varying weather during travel.
