Job description

About ECO2

ECO Oxygen Technologies, LLC (ECO2) is an independent company headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, that designs and manufactures SuperOxygenation systems for water and wastewater treatment.

Founded in 2000, ECO2 provides sustainable, environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional chemical treatment. Our innovative oxygen transfer technology helps municipal and industrial clients prevent odors and corrosion, improve water quality, and enhance the performance of water and wastewater infrastructure.

With more than two decades of experience, ECO2 has delivered proven solutions throughout North America and internationally while helping utilities reduce operating costs and improve environmental performance.

About the Position

ECO2 is seeking a motivated and technically capable Application Engineer to join our growing team. This position is ideal for an early-career engineer or technically oriented professional who enjoys solving problems, working with customers, managing projects, and seeing technical solutions installed and operating in the field.

The Application Engineer will support projects from initial opportunity evaluation and system design through procurement, installation, startup, commissioning, and ongoing customer support.

You will work closely with engineering, sales, operations, suppliers, contractors, and municipal and industrial clients. The position provides significant hands‑on experience and the opportunity to work on projects throughout North America, with occasional international opportunities as ECO2 continues to expand.

This is a remote position, and relocation is not required. The successful candidate must be comfortable traveling approximately 25% of the time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the sales team to evaluate customer needs and develop technical solutions.
  • Perform application and system design for ECO2 oxygenation systems, including Speece Cone systems, controls, side-stream pumping, and oxygen supply systems.
  • Develop system drawings, P&IDs, equipment layouts, and related technical documentation.
  • Review system integration drawings for new and retrofit projects.
  • Develop project-specific bid specifications.
  • Review consultant and contractor bid drawings and specifications.
  • Prepare project submittals, O&M manuals, and other technical documentation.
Project Management & Procurement
  • Coordinate with equipment manufacturers, fabricators, suppliers, contractors, and other project partners.
  • Manage relationships with fabrication and equipment suppliers.
  • Source and procure ancillary project equipment, testing equipment, laboratory equipment, and safety equipment.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules.
  • Coordinate project activities between engineering, sales, suppliers, contractors, and customers.
  • Assist with proposals, quotations, and technical sales support.
Field Services, Startup & Commissioning
  • Perform onsite investigations and due diligence to confirm project and design information.
  • Provide installation oversight and technical support.
  • Perform onsite equipment startup, testing, and commissioning.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and systems remotely and onsite.
  • Collect and analyze field samples from wastewater treatment systems and clean water reservoirs.
  • Support and execute pilot projects and field testing.
  • Prepare system startup and commissioning reports.
  • Travel to customer sites for project startups, site investigations, client meetings, pilot testing, and industry conferences.
Aftermarket & Customer Support
  • Provide technical support to existing ECO2 customers.
  • Troubleshoot system performance and equipment issues.
  • Coordinate with customers, vendors, and internal personnel to resolve technical issues.
  • Support ongoing system monitoring and reporting.
  • Assist with ECO2's online system portal and generate monthly system reports.
  • Help identify opportunities for system improvements, upgrades, and additional services.
Innovation & Business Support
  • Assist the sales team with technical proposal development and customer presentations.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with consultants, clients, OEMs, and suppliers.
  • Support development and testing of new technologies.
  • Assist with patent filings and documentation associated with new inventions and technologies.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, or a related technical field OR equivalent technical experience.
  • 0–5 years of relevant engineering, technical, project management, manufacturing, field service, or water/wastewater experience.
  • Strong mechanical and technical aptitude with an ability to understand how equipment and systems operate.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, specifications, P&IDs, and equipment documentation.
  • Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a small, multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to interact professionally with customers, vendors, contractors, consultants, and coworkers.

What We're Looking For

  • Work directly with experienced engineers, utilities, contractors, consultants, and municipal and industrial clients.
  • Gain hands‑on experience from initial concept through startup and commissioning.

  • Work in a small, entrepreneurial company where your contributions have an immediate impact.
  • Contribute to development of new technologies and patent opportunities.
  • Build experience across engineering, project management, sales support, procurement, and customer service.
  • Develop a broad technical skill set rather than being limited to a single engineering discipline.
