Job summary

Trane Technologies in Providence is hiring for an Application Engineer II (Equipment). You will be responsible for the equipment portion of projects, validating equipment selection, pricing, discounts, and submittals, and driving the strategy and performance of the budget objectives.

The role requires an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with HVAC project management or estimating experience, flexibility to work outside hours, and a base salary in the provided range.

  • Minimum two years in HVAC project management or estimating.
  • Five years HVAC project management/estimating with no degree is acceptable.
  • Willingness to work outside normal hours.

  • Optimize/validate equipment sizing, configurations, and options by reviewing plans and specs.
  • Evaluate potential cost savings and/or problems across projects.
  • Validate scope through transition documents, plans, and specs; plan EQ/VPP price breaks.
  • Support sales with preliminary/final submittals; participate in job cost meetings.
  • Negotiate prices with vendors to maintain competitive expenses.
  • Prepare equipment for order entry and reconcile job costs.
  • Assist with data collection to ensure accurate bid information.

What's in it for you

Trane in Providence is hiring for Application Engineer II (Equipment). In this role, you will be responsible for the equipment portion of various projects including validating the equipment selection, pricing, discounts, and submittal processes of the equipment portion of projects as required, and will be accountable for the strategy and performance achievement of the specific budget objectives.

What you will do
  • Responsible for the optimization/validation of the equipment to include selection of size, configuration, voltage, options, etc. of the HVAC equipment by reviewing the plans, specifications, original estimate and proposal.
  • Responsible for evaluating possible cost savings and/or cost problems that will occur on various projects.
  • Validates project scope by reviewing transition documents, plans and specs; listing possible cost savings and problems; planning EQ/ VPP dollar breaks; and validating quantities and configurations.
  • Supports sales and develops preliminary submittals and/or final submittals as required, as well as hold job cost consensus meeting and submittal release and makes any necessary changes.
  • Maintains competitive advantage and stays abreast of industry trends, as well as optimizes expenses by negotiating prices with vendors for materials.
  • Responsible for preparing the correct equipment for order entry, verifying equipment pricing and revising coordination worksheet, as well as reconcile job costs.
  • Assists with data collection and entry to ensure proper bid information is up to date.
What you will bring

Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Construction or Engineering Technology, or other related areas with minimum two (2) years of experience in the HVAC industry performing project management or estimating roles; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience; or minimum of five (5) years of experience in the HVAC industry performing project management or estimating roles; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. Candidates without a 4-year degree are encouraged to apply; we prioritize practical experience, relevant skills, and alignment with our leadership principles. Familiarity with HVAC Systems preferred. Flexibility to work outside normal work hours, as required.

Annual Base Salary Range or Hourly Base Pay Range: $91,516.66 - $128,379.99 Compensation Type: Salary Incentive Eligible: Yes Sales Commission Eligible: No Disclaimer: We strive to provide competitive compensation for this position, tailored to a variety of factors. Our compensation range is generally based on the national average for the country.
