The Application Design Engineer – Customer Project Support is a hands-on technical expert responsible for helping customers, System Integrators, and project teams successfully deliver EcoStruxure Automation Expert (EAE) projects. The role focuses on reducing project risk, accelerating deployment, solving technical challenges, and ensuring successful adoption of EAE across customer applications.

The person works directly with customer project teams throughout the project lifecycle, from architecture definition and technical validation to implementation support, troubleshooting, commissioning assistance, and lessons learned. Acting as a trusted technical advisor, the Application Design Engineer helps customers overcome challenges, apply best practices, and leverage EAE effectively in real-world applications.

By combining deep technical expertise, practical automation experience, and strong communication skills, the Application Design Engineer – Customer Project Support helps ensure successful project execution while building reusable assets, technical knowledge, and best practices for the broader EAE ecosystem.

WHAT YOU\'LL DO

Support Customer Project Execution

• Support customers, System Integrators, and project teams throughout the complete EAE project lifecycle.
• Assist project teams with application design, architecture decisions, implementation approaches, and deployment strategies.
• Help customers adopt EAE best practices and avoid common implementation pitfalls.
• Participate in technical reviews to ensure project readiness and successful execution.
• Support project teams during critical phases including FAT, SAT, commissioning, startup, and production deployment.

Architecture Validation & Technical Risk Reduction

• Review customer architectures and implementation strategies to identify risks, gaps, and improvement opportunities.
• Validate application designs, hardware architectures, software structures, and integration approaches.
• Develop proof-of-concepts and validation activities when required to reduce project uncertainty.
• Assess project complexity and provide recommendations to improve scalability, maintainability, performance, and reliability.
• Collaborate with technical experts to resolve architecture and design challenges.

Troubleshooting & Technical Escalation Support

• Investigate and resolve complex technical issues encountered during project execution.
• Support debugging activities involving EAE applications, libraries, communications, integrations, and deployment environments.
• Coordinate with R&D, product teams, and technical specialists when escalations are required.
• Help customers identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain visibility of critical technical issues and ensure proper follow-up until resolution.

Develop Reusable Technical Assets

• Create reusable application templates, libraries, function blocks, CATs, and project accelerators.
• Identify common customer requirements and transform them into reusable engineering assets.
• Contribute to standardization efforts that simplify future project delivery.
• Develop technical documentation, implementation guides, and deployment recommendations.
• Share successful project patterns and best practices across the CoE and global EAE organization.

Enable Customers & System Integrators

• Provide technical coaching and mentoring to customer engineering teams and System Integrators.
• Deliver workshops, technical training sessions, and architecture reviews focused on project execution.
• Help customers improve their understanding of EAE engineering methodologies and best practices.
• Build execution capability within regional partner ecosystems.
• Support knowledge transfer activities that improve customer autonomy and long-term success.

Capture Feedback & Continuous Improvement

• Act as the voice of project execution toward Global CoEs, Product Management, and R&D.
• Capture customer feedback, project lessons learned, recurring issues, and enhancement requests.
• Document technical findings, architecture decisions, troubleshooting activities, and project outcomes.
• Contribute to customer success stories and reference projects.
• Share feedback that can improve future EAE releases, libraries, documentation, and engineering processes.

Experience

• 3–8 years of experience in industrial automation, application engineering, system integration, controls engineering, or technical project delivery.
• Experience supporting customer projects from design through commissioning and startup.
• Proven experience troubleshooting and resolving technical challenges in industrial automation environments.
• Experience working directly with customers, System Integrators, and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Experience with EcoStruxure Automation Expert or similar software-defined automation platforms is a strong advantage.

Technical Expertise

• Strong understanding of industrial automation architectures and control systems including PLC, DCS, SCADA, HMI, and Edge solutions.
• Experience with IEC 61499, IEC 61131-3, or equivalent industrial programming environments.
• Knowledge of software development, system integration, and industrial application design.
• Experience with Linux and Windows environments, virtualization, containers, and modern software deployment methodologies.
• Familiarity with industrial communication protocols including MQTT, OPC UA, Modbus, EtherNet/IP, and PROFINET.
• Understanding of networking architectures, cybersecurity concepts, and IT/OT convergence.
• Experience reviewing, validating, and troubleshooting customer system architectures.

For this U.S. based position, the expected pay range is USD 101,600 - USD 152,400 per year. This pay range includes base pay and short-term incentives. The compensation range for this full-time position applies to candidates located within the United States. Our pay ranges are determined by reviewing roles of similar responsibility and level. Within the pay range, individual pay is determined by several factors including performance, knowledge, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
