Job summary

The Planet Group is seeking an Applications Engineer – Abrasives Specialist to support aftermarket tooling and honing abrasives, offering high-touch technical service and solution development. You will grow abrasive opportunities, review processes, and strengthen customer relationships through expert guidance and responsive support.

Ideal candidates will discuss diamond and boron abrasives, be willing to travel, and ensure tooling meets required grind specifications while promoting service

Applications Engineer – Abrasives Specialist

An Applications Engineer / Abrasive Specialist is responsible for supporting sales efforts tied to aftermarket tooling, honing abrasives, spare parts, and service offerings. This role will proactively seek, grow, and develop abrasive and tool rework opportunities while serving as a technical expert for honing abrasive and tooling solutions. The ideal candidate will strengthen customer loyalty through high-touch technical service, process optimization, and revenue-generating solution development.

Major Areas of Responsibility:

• Support Sales as they relate to Aftermarket Tooling, Abrasives, Spare Parts and Promoting Service.
• Seek out, grow and develop abrasive and tool rework opportunities.
• Review customer processes, suggest and act on improvements, and optimize customer tooling
• Develop customer relationships through technical expertise, service and support.

Primary Objectives:

• Grow the abrasive and tooling business to new applications and customers.
• Keep and maintain all current business.
• Act as the technical expert for abrasives and tooling solutions.
• Generate revenue from sales.
• Earning Customer Loyalty and Trust.

Specific Responsibilities of the position:

• Develop business case for new customers and abrasive application. Formulate solutions and meet customer requirements to grow the abrasive and tooling business
• Meet with all Abrasive customers to ensure Gehring is providing them with what is needed and expected.

Required Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of honing abrasives and related manufacturing processes
• Tool cleaning and assembly
• Be able to discuss diamond and borzon abrasives
• Be willing to travel to all customer sites
• Be able to check tool for proper grind
• Be able to adjust machine parameters to successfully complete stone trials and tests
• Capable of setting goals and working with minimal supervision to achieve the goals
