Application Developer III (Full Stack / Automation)

Position Title: Application Developer III (Full Stack / Automation)

Location: Remote – Richmond, VA

Clearance Requirements: U.S. Citizenship required (background investigation conducted post-offer)

Position Status: Contract (8 months) with potential extension or conversion to full‑time

Position Description: We are seeking a highly skilled Application Developer III to join a Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) organization focused on expanding automation across large‑scale network environments. This role is ideal for a full stack developer who enjoys owning applications end to end—from front‑end user experience through middleware and backend services—and collaborating closely with engineering teams to bring automation concepts to life.

You will design and build modern, scalable applications using JavaScript (Node.js, React/Next.js) and Python‑based APIs, supporting automation initiatives that interact with network infrastructure. While familiarity with networking concepts is a plus, deep networking expertise is not required—you will partner with experienced network engineers who provide domain knowledge.

This is a highly visible role where communication skills, technical ownership, and the ability to translate ideas into production‑ready applications are key to success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain end‑to‑end automation applications, including front‑end UI, middleware services, and backend components
  • Build and integrate Python‑based APIs to support automation workflows and system integrations
  • Develop modern web applications using JavaScript, Node.js, React, and/or Next.js
  • Collaborate with SREs, network engineers, and cross‑functional teams to define requirements and deliver scalable solutions
  • Implement automation using Ansible where appropriate (not the primary focus of the role)
  • Deploy and manage applications in AWS environments, including ECS/Fargate
  • Use Terraform for infrastructure‑as‑code and environment provisioning
  • Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and Agile ceremonies (Scrum/Kanban)
  • Identify performance bottlenecks and optimize application reliability and efficiency
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for applications and automation solutions
Required Skills/Education
  • Strong professional experience as a Full Stack Developer or Application Developer
  • Proficiency in JavaScript (Node.js, React, Next.js preferred)
  • Proficiency in Python, particularly for API development
  • Experience using Ansible for automation (supporting role, not primary focus)
  • Experience with Git-based version control and CI/CD pipelines (GitLab Actions preferred)
  • Hands‑on experience with AWS services, including ECS and Fargate
  • Experience using Terraform for infrastructure automation
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Exposure to networking concepts, distributed systems, or real‑time systems is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Must be a United States Citizen
