Job description

Astor & Sanders Corporation (Astor) is an award-winning IT solutions provider headquartered in McLean, VA seeking an Appian Architect/Engineer. This is a full-time and remote.

Position Summary: The Appian Architect/Engineer serves as the lead technical expert for designing and guiding the implementation of Appian-based solutions. This role involves translating business needs into scalable technical architectures, overseeing a team of developers, and ensuring solutions meet all functional, security, performance, and compliance requirements. The Appian Architect/Engineer will work closely with federal and contractor stakeholders to modernize the OLIVIA system and migrate legacy data into Oracle databases.

  • Provide technical leadership and architectural oversight for Appian solutions, ensuring alignment with DOL’s enterprise architecture and security standards.
  • Design and manage complex workflows, data integrations, user interfaces, and business rules using Appian low-code/no-code capabilities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (developers, business analysts, DBAs) to troubleshoot technical issues and develop robust, scalable solutions.
  • Define integration strategies, APIs, and data migration approaches for legacy systems (e.LORS) to Appian-based OLIVIA applications.
  • Lead software delivery, incorporating agile methods for iterative development and sprint-based deployment.
  • Coordinate design documentation, technical artifacts, and code reviews to maintain high code quality and alignment with industry best practices.
  • Advise on feasibility, technical trade-offs, and future enhancements for continuous system improvement and DevSecOps automation.
Requirements
  • At least 8 years of experience in Appian solution development projects, with 5+ years in a lead or architect role guiding developer teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (4 additional years of relevant work experience may substitute).
  • Proven track record designing, implementing, and integrating complex Appian modules for large (200+ user) enterprises.
  • 10+ years of overall software development experience, with significant exposure to agile methods and enterprise security frameworks (NIST, FedRAMP).
  • Experience implementing relational databases, including Oracle, for data modeling, integration, and querying.
  • SCRUM Master Certification (preferred).
