The Nassau County District Attorney's Office Appeals Bureau seeks an experienced appellate lawyer to handle post-judgment motions and appeals. Duties include researching, writing and arguing briefs, and advising ADAs on complex legal issues arising during investigations, trials, and sentencing.

Ideal candidates have a JD from an ABA-accredited school, NY bar admission, reside in NY, and at least 3 years in criminal appellate work. Strong work ethic and deadline discipline are essential.

Qualifications

• JD from ABA-accredited law school
• Licensed to practice law in NY in good standing
• Residence in NY as of employment
• 3+ years in criminal law or appellate work

Responsabilités

• Researching, writing and arguing briefs in intermediate appellate courts and NY Court of Appeals
• Handle collateral post-conviction motions under Article 440
• Brief and argue habeas corpus petitions in federal courts
• Counsel ADAs on questions of law during pre-trial, trial, and sentencing stages
• Review adverse decisions for People’s appeals and research/brief those appeals
• Conduct conviction integrity reviews when warranted
• Litigate in civil proceedings including habeas corpus and Article 78 petitions
• Engage in motion practice at all stages of the appellate process
