Job summary

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate is required.
• Active membership in the Utah State Bar in good standing.
• Excellent writing and oral advocacy skills; ability to communicate clearly in writing.
• Ability to research, interpret and apply caselaw, statutes, rules, and procedures.
• Speak clearly and effectively; listen and respond to verbal information and ideas.
• Knowledge of public and private records laws (GARRA) and appellate procedure.
• Ability to supervise or lead others and provide training or mentoring.
• Willingness to travel to court locations and represent the State before appellate courts.

Responsibilities

• Draft appellate briefs and other filings.
• Present oral argument in state and federal appellate courts.
• Conduct legal research related to appellate matters.
• Consult with clients and trial counsel, give advice, and facilitate decisions related to appeals.
• Participate in mediations and settlement negotiations.
• Participate in mock arguments and strategy sessions for oral argument.
• Edit, revise, and cite-check briefs written by other attorneys.
• May travel to various court locations and stay overnight.
