Title: Appeals Medical Doctor

Position Type: Long-term, temporary (1+ years)

Location: Long Island City, NY

Hours: 3 days per week

Salary: $150 per hour

Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Job Description

Our client, an NYS agency focused on transportation services, is seeking an Appeals Medical Doctor for its private medical transportation department. The medical doctor will provide medical expertise and support in reviewing appellants’ applications and eligibility documentation, including:

  • Assist the Eligibility Appeals Director with conducting eligibility appeals via telephone, video conferencing, written documentation, or in-person meetings.
  • Assist Board members with responding to questions, concerns, and complaints regarding eligibility appeals from appellants.
  • Ensure compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
  • Understand and adhere to ADA regulations applicable to eligibility appeals.
  • Participate in all eligibility appeal hearings, whether in person, via documentation review, or teleconferencing. Schedules will be provided in advance.
  • Attend relevant meetings or conference calls related to appeal hearings as required.
Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited Medical school with MD or DO degree, including osteopathic medicine with a holistic health approach.
  • Valid medical license in the State of New York.
  • 1-3 years of medical practice or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in medical records review and appeals procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills—written, telephone, and face-to-face.
  • Professional demeanor and interactions.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Availability to work 3 days per week: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 7-8 hours per day, with hearings starting at 9 AM.
  • Consistent attendance and adherence to the assigned monthly schedule.
