Job summary

Brooks is seeking a Materials Developer at our Seattle HQ to drive seasonal material development from concept through commercialization, delivering products that exceed consumer expectations.

You will collaborate with Design, Product teams, suppliers, and Sustainability partners, applying material knowledge, testing, costing, and documentation to optimize performance, cost, and quality while meeting calendar commitments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Textile Design or related field; equivalent combination of education and years of experience considered
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering, troubleshooting, and testing performance knits and wovens
  • Deep understanding and proven success with textile testing methods, material constructions, and material processes
  • Proficient in PLM systems to build, support, and maintain digital material library
  • MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Illustrator proficiency
  • Ability to lead and influence in a cross-functional team to meet strategic objectives
  • Strong project management skills; ability to manage projects independently
  • Excellent attention to detail in planning, organizing, and execution
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to connect dots and anticipate impacts across teams
  • Curiosity and openness to new ideas; willingness to improve products and processes
  • Proven ability to build positive relationships across diverse teams

Responsibilities

  • Partner on material and trim development from concept to production
  • Manage workload according to the seasonal development calendar
  • Collaborate with Product Line Management, Design, Development and cross-functional partners
  • Evaluate material/trim prototypes and address wear-test issues
  • Support special projects and future strategic goals
  • Apply material specifications to support decisions for performance, quality, and cost targets
  • Maintain material and trim documentation in Flex system (FDS/TDS, test reports)
  • Maintain organized reference library of materials and specs
  • Collaborate with mills and suppliers for costing and development strategies
  • Coordinate supplier visits and tradeshow appointments
  • Track shipments to support timelines
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
