Job summary

LiKEN Knowledge seeks a Forestry and Agroforestry Specialist for Southern West Virginia. This contract position (1 year, part-time or full-time) focuses on supporting small landowners with forest management and agroforestry livelihoods in Appalachia.

The role involves field assessments, collaboration with local coordinators and landowners, and coordination with foresters and agencies to deliver plans, workshops, and market connections.

Qualifications

• Passion for and experience in sustainable forestry and agroforestry.
• Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Environmental Studies, Natural Resource Management, Agriculture or related field.
• Familiarity with Appalachian ecosystems and conservation priorities.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to write plans and educational materials.
• Ability to work independently and travel locally for fieldwork.
• Residence in or adjacent to our service area.

Responsibilities

• Conduct site visits and initial forest assessments with landowners/producers.
• Connect participants to resources and programs to meet their goals.
• Assist in management and production planning for landowners and producers.
• Write implementation/practice plans for agroforestry and conservation projects.
• Provide on-the-ground assistance to landowners implementing sustainable forestry, conservation and agroforestry.
• Coordinate with foresters, contractors, and local/state/federal agencies.
